Hello Everyone!
My name is Elise Metzger. I have been an art teacher for 27 years in one setting or another. My teaching experience has allowed me to work with a varied population of students from urban settings in elementary, junior high and high school to private education in a
K-12 suburban setting. I am experienced in writing curriculum, teaching art from a cart, serving on discipline committees, collaborating with teachers and presenting teaching strategies to new teachers and organizing art exhibitions.
I have lived in this area almost all my life. I was an art major in high school, then went on to get my undergraduate degree at BGSU in art education. A few years later I attended the University of Toledo and received a graduate degree in art education. My career has taken me to many different schools.
I began my career as an elementary art teacher for Toledo Public Schools. I then became an art department mentor for Toledo Public Schools. It was a challenge teaching for TPS, but I loved the students and learned a lot. When my son, Luke was born, I decided to stay home. While at home with Luke I started a program for toddlers called, Creation Foundation, which incorporated visual art, music and movement. When Luke was ready for school, I took him to Monclova Christian Academy to look around. We loved it and they were looking for an art teacher! Wow! Don't you love how God works out all the details?
Currently I live in Maumee with my husband, Dave, my son Luke, our dog Lima and our cat Crosby. Dave and I grew up next door to each other in Maumee and our families have been good friends for as long as I can remember. We live at the top of a pretty big hill and so enjoy slip sliding in the summer and sledding in the winter. Some of my favorite things are gardening, making art, reading and watching Luke play basketball. One thing I don't like to do is cook! Good thing Mr. Metzger loves cooking.
My favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:4 "...the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." I love this verse because it helps me keep things in perspective. There is nothing here on earth; no person, or problem, or situation that is bigger than God. That's awesome to know that God's got the day, everyday.
